camera notes: I've sold my Kodak DC260, and bought a Kodak 4800, a 3.1 megapixel camera. IMHO, the focus and color isn't as good as the 260, but obviously, the resolution is much better. The user interface is also much better than the 260.
As I discovered, nearly major european city is located near a meandering river; Salzburg is no exception. large size |
The top of the Mozarteum, a wonderful place to hear music, where Claudia played a concert. large size. cropped: |
All around town is incredibly beautiful grillwork. large size |
In the center of the main square is a giant chess set. Strangely, the players weren't very good. large size |
No kidding-- there's a store that sells nothing but (thousands of) painted eggs. large size |
Five minutes out of town you can find beautiful farmland. large size |
We found an upscale cafe with live music, set in the back of the old part of town. large size |
There are many old statues in the cemeteries around town. large size |
My rendition of the classic Salzburg postcard photo. large size |
There's a little cafe at the top of the castle that has great views. The late afternoon light and the happy couples beckoned me to take this picture. large size |
To get to the castle, you have to take a tram, which scared many people (including mom). I couldn't resist a candid photo of some terrified tourists. large size |

Jason and Claudia, taken on a boatride. large size |
Claudia told us a tragic story about this cute little island, but I don't remember it. large size |
The boat took us past this sheer rock face. large size |
All along the lake were little towns with beautiful houses and hotels. large size |
On saturday, there's a giant market and they close down the streets large size |
It's very popular at the market to stand around and eat sausage. large size |
Vegetarians should skip to the next photo! large size |
A held-above-the-head photo of the market. large size |
Really, I didn't stage this photo: the berried really were set out this way! large size |
I loved how this giant pumpkin stretching its crate. large size |
Obligatory cheese vendor photo. :-) large size |
Obligatory kraut vendor photo. :-) large size |
Obligatory european flowers-for-sale photo. large size |
Germany is about 30 minutes from Salzburg, where I caught this photo of some moss growing on a tree. large size |
Vines grow on many of the buildings; this photo was taken down the street from our hotel. large size |
Another version of the same photo. large size |
